Summer Reading Challenge Update Week 2

Here we are in week 2 of our Summer Reading Challenge. Almost 300 of you are signed up and many of you are reading more minutes than I am!

Here’s our update:

Mrs. Janson has read 40 books! Her favorite book was Duck on a Bike by David Shannon. It can be found with the Easy picture books under call number E Shannon. Mrs. Janson says it’s a great book for anyone who is learning to ride their bicycle.

I have read 525 minutes so far this summer! That’s 8.5 hours! My favorite book this week is the one I just started for the Dare-To-Dream  book club, Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. Here’s a summary from “In his first novel for a younger audience, Carl Hiaasen (Basket Case, etc.) plunges readers right into the middle of an ecological mystery, made up of endangered miniature owls, the Mother Paula’s All-American Pancake House scheduled to be built over their burrows, and the owls’ unlikely allies–three middle school kids determined to beat the screwed-up adult system. Hiaasen’s tongue is firmly in cheek as he successfully cuts his slapstick sense of humor down to kid-size. Sure to be a hoot, er, hit with middle school mystery fans.”

The Dare-To-Dream book club is for children who have completed grades 3-6. We will meet on Friday June 29. Bring your lunch and I’ll provide dessert. We’ll discuss the book and make a craft. Hope to see you there! Send me an email if you want to join!

That’s our update for this week. Remember, if you beat us, you will be invited to an ice cream party. Keep up the good work and invite a friend. Anyone who gets a friend to join the summer reading club will receive a tattoo. Just let us know the next time you come in.
